Role: Full-Stack Developer
Duration: 1 Day
Cube Real-Time Demo

Overview

This is a simple demo application that showcases real-time data updates using Angular and Node.js. The application allows users to join a room and change a cube's color in real-time and rotate it using mouse drag. It demonstrates the use of WebSockets for real-time communication between the client and server.

Challenge

Real-time applications often require efficient communication between the client and server to update data instantly. This demo aims to showcase how to implement real-time features using WebSockets.

The Process

I started by setting up a basic Angular application and a Node.js server. I implemented Socket.IO for real-time communication, allowing the client to send and receive messages instantly. The frontend was designed to display a cube that can change color and rotate based on user interactions.

Solution

The resulting application allows users to join a room and interact with a cube in real-time. Users can change the cube's color and rotate it by dragging the mouse, with all changes reflected instantly across all connected clients. The application demonstrates the power of WebSockets for building interactive real-time applications.

Outcome

The real-time demo application was successfully developed and deployed, providing a simple yet effective demonstration of real-time data updates. Users can interact with the cube in real-time, showcasing the capabilities of WebSockets and Socket.IO.

Technologies

Angular NodeTS Express.js TypeScript Socket.IO three.js

Key Learnings

Building this real-time demo application provided valuable experience in implementing WebSockets and real-time communication in Angular applications. I also used three - Javascript 3d library to render the cube and learned basics of 3D rendering in the browser.
